Alternative Pre Heresy Alpha Legion Color Schemes

Oh hey there! I've just finished doing a couple things in some of my alternative Pre Heresy Alpha Legion color schemes. I wanted to mix it up a bit for this army, as I'm getting up towards 130 infantry models, and I wanted to keep it interesting for myself. I've got two alternate schemes.

One is based on the Astral Claws theme. I've always loved it, but never wanted to start a new army for them. I figure for my force, the Iron Scales are a division of honor guards and specialists that get called in to help with high value campaigns. It is an honor for them to be sent to re-enforce a campaign, and Harrow Masters will go to great lengths to secure their services.

The other is a reference to my love of the old crazy Rogue Trader color schemes. I love goofy colored camo on space marines, and I couldn't help but paint up  my recon force in my tiger stripes! I have two speeders to do, this photo only has the first test portion done.

A little Infinity art! Still plenty left to work on, but I'm enjoying playing around on it.

Adepticon Calth Bash: The Revenge!

Last night, we played a great game at the house of one of my fellow Greying Legion (The Adepticon and NOVA Heresy Team) veterans. We played through our "Calth Bash" that we ran at Adepticon this year, and are planning to again. It's a pretty great little set up. The armies essentially are restricted to what you can get in the Calth box, plus your legion rules. That's it. So, each side has 30 marines, 5 terminators, a contemptor, and a character. There are points restrictions for upgrades on each of those things, and the only model not from the box that is available is a single bare rhino. To make things interesting, we add in the Calth dice, which gets rolled every turn. You can then use the various results to do things like add models back to squads that have taken casualties, or get extra shots with various weapons. We also use a fancy version of Meatgrinder. Each time you recycle a unit, you give your opponent your Meatgrinder token, which they flip over and becomes a Vengeance token. You can use those to do things like count as a one shot combi weapon, or juice someone up on combat drugs!

Overall, it's a blast, and basically results in total madness and huge numbers of casualties that keep getting followed up by more fresh meat....which is exactly what the Heresy is to us!

We racked up my Alpha Legion and Salamanders against the birthday boy/host's Death Guard. Really, his army is made up of Istvaan III loyalists, so it's got Sons of Horus, Death Guard, Emperor's Children, and World Eaters in it. For simplicity's sake, they were all Death Guard.

In the end, the Death Guard won by a single Victory Point, 23-22. VPs were based on a check-list of accomplishments during the game, some silly, some game based. Things like destroying a unit, destroying a unit in a sweeping advance, making your opponent laugh, and contributing to capturing objectives all got you VPs.

Since it was a weeknight, we ended up cutting the game short, but we had a great time, and got a couple people a little more familiar with the rules.

Arena Rex Demo Day!

Whoo hoo! Our first Arena Rex Demo Day is in the books! We had a blast on Sunday at Untapped Games in Providence, RI, rolling dice and causing mayhem. We had 5 people, plus me running things. First, we played a couple of warm-up rules learning games. We played with cohorts of 3 models, and we essentially used only the fronts of the cards. No special rules or special Ludus rules. Both were bloody affairs! We played both games on the Arena Rex mats, with the cake topper pillars and a a couple of pits each. The first game was Legio XIII vs Zephyri, and then we switched to the other mat where the Morituri and Ludus Magnus were set up. Last, we added a model each to the Morituri and and the Legio XIII and played a 4vs4 game, this time with all the rules in play, and the Wendigo in the middle as a living hazard. It was a mess, in the best way possible! Special shout out to Zhara for reaching out with her whip, grabbing Amelia, pulling her towards a pit, re-positioning, and then throwing her in, all in one attack!
I look forward to running more days like this, and I think everyone had a good time.

New Alpha Legion Saboteur! Recon Rite of War underway!

So, I've decided I'm going to build up the recon portion of my Alpha Legion army, aiming to use them both for the Recon Rite of War, and the Hunter-Killer Traitor Shattered Legion Rite of War. I will also be using them heavily in Kill Team and Tactical Strike games. They're all going to have the same black and turquoise tiger stripe camo that I used on my previous sniper recon marines:

So, here's the first couple guys. I have two bolter recon guys and a new Saboteur. I've always loved using a Saboteur, but the model I built for it previously was done really fast. I will still use it, but I wanted a new one with a combi weapon, and lookin' a little more mean. So, here's the new version. Since the photo, I've given him a small helmet crest.
